Baton Privacy Policy

Effective October 12, 2026 · Applies to Baton for iPhone, version 1.0 and later.

Baton is a private notebook for your household — the people, pets, routines, contacts and home details a sitter needs — that you can turn into a shareable brief. This policy explains, plainly, what happens to the information you put in it.

The short version

Information you enter

You may enter names, birthdays, photos, routines, food and comfort notes, allergies, medications and health conditions, house rules, where things are kept, Wi‑Fi details, door or alarm codes, addresses, and contact details for family, neighbors, doctors, veterinarians and schools. All of it is stored only in Baton's private storage on your iPhone, protected by iOS Data Protection (encrypted while the device is locked). Baton can additionally be locked with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

Contacts and Photos

If you choose to add a contact from your address book, iOS shows Apple's limited‑access contact picker; Baton receives only the contacts you select and stores a copy of the name and the numbers or email you picked. Baton never reads your full address book. If you add a photo for a child or pet, Baton receives only that photo through Apple's photo picker and stores a reduced‑size copy in its own storage.

Sharing briefs

A brief is a PDF generated on your iPhone. Each brief has privacy switches (access codes, full address, medical details, photos, contact phone numbers) with defaults chosen for the audience. When you share a brief you are sending that PDF yourself, through the app you choose; Baton has no copy of it and no way to see where it goes. Treat shared briefs like any document that contains your family's information.

Spotlight, Siri and widgets

To let you find things quickly, Baton can add names and item titles to the on‑device Spotlight index and offer Siri Shortcuts. This stays on your device. Codes, passwords and medical details are never indexed. The widget shows only readiness percentages and a link to your emergency card — never names, numbers or health details.

Backups

You can export a backup file (.batonbackup) containing everything in the app, including photos, to Files or any location you choose. The file is not encrypted by Baton; store it somewhere you trust. Your iPhone's iCloud Backup or computer backup may also include Baton's data under Apple's terms.

Children

Baton is made for parents and caregivers. It does not knowingly collect information from children, because it does not collect information from anyone.

Changes

If a future version ever changes any of the above — for example adding optional iCloud sync — this policy will be updated first and the change will be described in the App Store release notes.
